A qualitative study to identify programmatic barriers to kidney paired donation (KPD)

Kidney paired donation (KPD) allows two or more living donors to swap their donor kidneys to achieve a better age or immunologic match result for their respective transplant recipients. Although multiple programs in the US facilitate KPD, there is wide variation in the use of KPD between US transplant centers. Conducted on behalf of the AST Living Donor Community of Practice’s KPD Workgroup, this study seeks to identify center-based barriers to KPD adoption.
This study is funded by the Virginia Lee Cook-Bakiares Excellence Fund.
