This study assesses the possibility of trans-organ exchange, living donor liver-for-kidney swaps. Trans-organ exchange could help mitigate the organ shortage by enabling living donor candidates who have organ-specific medical issues making it inadvisable to donate their kidney to donate a part of their liver in exchange for the kidney needed by their intended recipient. Our study examines living donor candidates’ and transplant professionals’ attitudes towards this trans-organ exchange.
