Characterizing SARS-CoV-2 in Persistently Infected Individuals

Characterizing SARS-CoV-2 in Persistently Infected Individuals

Purpose:
We aimed to understand how SARS-CoV-2 progresses and changes in individuals with prolonged infections. This information will help us understand the processes by which COVID-19 variants (e.g., like Omicrom) evolve and how to assess risks to patients, people they are in direct contact with, and the broader community.

Eligibility:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Recently tested positive for COVID-19
  • Resident of the United States

Participation:

  • Three timepoints at baseline, day 14, and day 28 out from initial infection. For those who became persistently infected (testing positive for 28+ days), monthly sessions would be scheduled until a negative test or up to 24 months.
  • Methods
    • Self-collection or in person collection of nasal samples
    • Optional in person or self-collected blood draws
    • Optional self-collection of stool samples
    • Optional surveys
